Nokta Makro’s The Legend and The Facts

*NEW* 11/19/2021 Nokta Makro unleashed their latest metal detector they are calling “The Legend”. The Legend comes packed with some great features but the one feature they are hyping is simultaneous multi-frequency operation.

Multi-Frequency isn’t something new. Minelab has been offering the Equinox with its Multi-IQ or multi-frequency capability for several years. How will the Legend stack up against the competition? We are going to explore all of the features of the Legend based on what we know today.

How Much Will Nokta Makro’s Legend Cost?

Nokta is offering 2 options for the Legend

What’s The Difference Between The Two Pricing Options?

What Metal Detectors will Nokta Makro’s Legend Compete With?

Based on the video the folks at Nokta Makro are going after Minelab’s Equinox market. The price structure of the Legend will certainly make potential customers of the Equinox take a 2nd look. Nokta’s Makro’s video also took a swipe at Garrett’s Ace Apex but they are clearly targeting Minelab and their Equinox Market.

An interesting side note about the video, there was no mention of XP’s Deus II which is also going to offer simultaneous multi frequency capability. However XP’s price point for the Deus II comes in much higher at $1599. For more information on XP’s Deus II check out the article I wrote about it here.

Legend’s Features That Stand Out

There are 5 features that stand out that aren’t offered by any other metal detector other than Nokta Makro’s own Simplex. The 1st three are:

  • Flashlight feature
  • Vibration feature
  • Time Feature

Will these extra features be a big selling point for most customers. Probably not. Are they nice to have? Absolutely but not a big game changer in my opinion.

The 2 other features I see Nokta offering that I find interesting are:

  • Operating time feature
  • FerroCheck Feature

I think the operating time or usage indicator is something that is unique that no other metal detectors offer. Again, is it a big selling point? In my opinion I don’t think so but it will be a nice feature to have especially if you are picking up one of these machines used or if you want to sell it down the road.

The FerroCheck feature is a great idea. A visual representation along with a target id goes a long way. In the video, they show someone using the Legend on the beach passing up a bottlecap but someone using an Equinox digs it up. Obviously, Nokta is trying to make you believe that you won’t dig up as much trash as you do with the Equinox but field tests will have to prove or disprove this feature.

Overall The Legend Seems Pretty Good For The Money

The price point of the Legend and all of its features packed in what appears to be a very durable metal detector will be very attractive to some. For those who own and love the Simplex, this machine the natural progression up that will offer more capability and flexibility for new owners.

Legend’s beach performance will be telling. If Noka Makro can pull off equal or better performance on wet sand than the Minelab Equinox you will see a lot of interest. If it doesn’t, you will see the hype die out quickly.

Mental Metal

Here is a little about me. I started this hobby back in the early 90's. My first detector was a Whites 5900 DI. I found enough clad the first summer (around $400) to pay it off. Then I stopped detecting... Fortunately, I didn't give it up for good. Here I am 20+ years later and I've rediscovered the joy of metal detecting.
