XP Deus and The Anfibio (Multi) Comparison.

The XP Deus and Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi metal detectors are very similar machines but they are also very different. They are both VLF metal detectors and they are both considered multi-frequency detectors but neither of them operate in multi-frequencies simultaneously. They only operate in one single frequency when in use. However, the operator can switch operating frequencies when needed. This feature provides the flexibility to adapt to just about any ground condition enabling detectorists to metal detect in places where other metal detectors had difficulty in the past. But what makes these metal detectors similar but also very different? We are going to dissect each machine to find out.

Whats in This Article?

This article takes a look at the Anfibio and compares it to its biggest rival, the XP Deus. Both machines have been around a while. The XP Deus has been around longer but both machines live up to their hype. Both metal detectors have their own features and they also have their own differences which set them apart. Keep reading to find out more.

Company Origins.

Nokta Macro Detectors

Originally called Nokta Detectors but now listed as Nokta Makro Detection Technologies on their website. The company started out in 2001 with their base of operations located in Istanbul Turkey. In 2014 they acquired Makro Detectors and from that point forward they became Nokta Makro Detectors. The offer several lines of metal detectors, pin-pointers, security scanners and more. Check out their website by clicking here.

XP Metal Detectors

XP Metal Detectors is based out of Toulouse, France and they have been around since 1998. They also offer several metal detectors as well some very good pin-pointers including the MI-6 which I which I highly recommend especially if you own the XP Deus.

Multi-Frequency But Single Frequency Operation.

Both the XP Deus and the Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi are multi-frequency VLF machines but they do not operate in multi-frequencies simultaneously. Both machines operate on one frequency when the detector is in use. However, you can easily switch between the frequencies offered by each machine.

The ability to operate in multi frequencies gives the operator the ability to adapt to just about any condition he/she is faced with. Those of us who own one of these metal detectors enjoy the ability to change and hunt in different frequencies.

Different types of metal hit harder on different frequencies. The higher frequencies will detect smaller pieces of metal that previous hunters missed. On the other hand, lower frequencies will seek out those deep silver coins that have been hiding from other single frequency metal detectors. So you see, having a multi frequency machine is like having multiple detectors built into one.

XP Deus Multi Frequencies.

XP offers numerous frequencies depending on the search coil that is paired up to the Deus. The default frequency range is 3.7-27.7 kHz. However, if you purchase the the 9 inch round High Frequency (HF) the frequency range starts at 13 kHz through 55 kHz and the Elliptical High Frequency Coil operates from 13 kHz to 81 kHz.

Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi Frequencies.

Unlike the XP Deus, the Anfibio Multi only offers operating frequencies from 5 kHz, 14 kHz, and 20 kHz. However, these 3 frequencies are more than enough to find the same targets that you will also hear with the XP Deus.

How Much Does Each Detector Cost?

These metal detectors couldn’t be further apart when it comes to price. I went out to Kellyco Metal Detectors to see what their prices are for each detector. Kellyco’s prices are very comparable to other vendors. If you want more information about each detector, I created links below that will take you over to their site. Overall, there is approximately a $500 difference in price between the two machines.

Not too long ago, XP came out with their XP ORX metal detector which is nothing more but a stripped down XP Deus with some different filtering and less slots to fill with customized programs. The price is very comparable to the Anfibio. We won’t go into the ORX here in this article but you can check the ORX article I wrote by clicking here.

How Much Does Each Detector Weigh?

The XP Deus is probably one of the lightest metal detector you can buy. Even with the control box attached it only weights 2 lbs. But here is a comparison between the Deus and the Anfibio Multi:

Without Control Box: 1 pound 15 ounces.

What Are The Ground Balance Options?

Both metal detectors offer similar ground balancing techniques such as Automatic, Manual, and Tracking. The XP Deus also offers a Manual/Pumping option as well as a Beach option.

Search Coil Options

Both the XP Deus and Nokta Makro Anfibio can be fitted with several optional coils here is a break down for each machine.

How Many Search Modes?

The search modes vary a bit. The Anifibio offers 9 search modes. The Deus calls their search modes “Operating Modes. Here is a breakdown of the differences.

While it may look like the Anfibio comes out on top in the is category, think again. The XP Deus has the advantage when it comes to customization features with the search modes. However, the Anfibio is also very configurable and the more I see the more I like. But I still feel like the XP has little more to offer in this category but the Anfibio really isn’t far off and some may argue that the Anfibio is more configurable than the XP. Its really a 50/50 split to be honest.

Display Differences.

Obviously the XP has a much smaller display but is still easy to see and configure once you get used to the menu system. But the Anfibio has a much bigger display, bigger numbers, and a much better look and feel. The buttons feel good where as the XP buttons can be hard to push at times.

On the downside, the display on Anfibio can scratch easily and I would recommend getting a cover for it immediately. You can find them on Amazon for around $15. Click here to check them out on Amazon.

Are They Both 100% Waterproof?

The answer is NO. The Anfibio is 100% waterproof where the XP Deus is not. This really sets the machines apart. Not only is the Anfibio cheaper but it is 100% waterproof and while you can purchase a water kit for the XP Deus its not a waterproof machine.

The Deus is waterproof from the coil up to the control box without a water kit. If you decide to submerge the control box it must be placed in water tight enclosure or bag. You can purchase a Deus Water Kit from Amazon by clicking here or the image below.

Battery Life Comparison

The XP Deus when fully charged with the search coil will give approximately 20 hours of use. The Anfibio Multi fully charged gives you about 19 hours of use. But if you hunt in 5 kHz you only get about 9 hours of use.

Warranty Comparison.

The XP Deus has the better warranty with a 5 year parts and labor warranty. Where as the Anfibio Multi only offers 2 years.

Technical Specs

The technical specs of each machine will tell you a lot about each machine. I highly recommend that you check them out. I’ve provided direct links over both tech specs.

The Key Take Aways.

Overall, both machines are great. If you are looking to purchase something with a lot of functionality on a limited budget, you can’t go wrong with the Anfibio. On the other hand, if you are looking for a little more customization and a very lightweight machine, the XP Deus is for you. Both machines are very similar but the Anfibio is 100% waterproof so you don’t have to worry about the weather raining down on you.

The XP Deus offers more custom features and packs more functionality but it does come with an extra cost and you don’t have a 100% waterproof machine. Don’t let the lightest machine on the market full you. The Deus is a powerful machine and light enough to take anywhere. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Mental Metal

Here is a little about me. I started this hobby back in the early 90's. My first detector was a Whites 5900 DI. I found enough clad the first summer (around $400) to pay it off. Then I stopped detecting... Fortunately, I didn't give it up for good. Here I am 20+ years later and I've rediscovered the joy of metal detecting.
