Metal Detecting and the XP ORX. What is the difference between the XP Deus and XP ORX? Is one better than the other? Which one is cheaper and why did XP come out with the ORX? Those are just some of the questions I’ll try and answer in this post. Plus, I’ll link a very good video that provides a really good comparison between the 2 detectors.
Metal Detecting Differences Between The XP Deus And The XP ORX.
Whats the difference between the Deus and the ORX? I’ve been doing a lot research on the XP ORX. In a nut shell, the ORX is a simplified version of the Deus but just as powerful and I like what I see. In fact, if the ORX would have been out when I purchased my Deus, I probably would have gone with the ORX because of the price and how simple it is to use. XP did a really nice job of simplifying the Deus.
Factory Programs.
The ORX comes with 4 factory programs. The Deus has 10. Two of the 4 ORX programs are for coins, relics, and jewelry. There are 2 additional programs for gold prospecting. However, you do have 2 slots for your own custom programs compared to the Deus which has 8.
My Thoughts on The Number of Programs and Weight.
I’ll be honest, I’m at the point now, using my Deus, that I really only tweak 2 or 3 programs so the ORX would be just fine for most users and the price is a lot cheaper than the Deus. Plus, the ORX is almost 1 pound lighter than the Deus. The Deus is only 2 pounds which includes the remote. The ORX weighs 1 pound 14 ounces. That is insane!
The ORX Interface is Simple To Understand.
The other big difference is in the user interface. It appears to be much simpler to configure which will be appealing to new users. I have heard many times from XP Deus owners (including myself) that the learning curve was difficult with all of the configuration options and settings because there are so many of them to learn. The ORX removes a lot of those options and really tries to make the ORX a “turn on and go” machine. To see the full list of ORX Specifications, XP has them listed on their website
Is The ORX Better Than The Deus?
In my opinion, the Deus will still have the upper advantage with all the configuration options. But the ORX still packs a punch and will hit the deep targets as you will see in the video below. As an experienced Deus owner, I wouldn’t trade in my Deus for the ORX. I personally like all the configurations options the Deus offers but I’ve learned how to use them. Others new to the XP brand will appreciate the ORX and it’s simplicity. Both machines can use the X35 or HF coils, both machines integrate the MI-6 Pin-Pointer (see my review of the MI-6), and both machines are still the lightest metal detectors on the planet! Either way, you can’t go wrong by purchasing one of these XP Detectors.
How Much Does The XP ORX Cost?
As far as the price goes, the ORX is priced somewhere around the $899 price range which is really good for what you get. In my opinion, it looks like XP is trying to match or come down in price to compete with the Minelab Equinox. I think this was XPs way of trying to maintain or take some of the market share from Minelab. Either way you look at it, it was a smart move for XP and if they market the ORX correctly, XP should do pretty well but I don’t see a lot experienced Deus owners switching to the ORX. Like I mentioned earlier, if you are new to the XP brand and you don’t want to break the bank, then the ORX is the way to go.
If you are a ORX owner, what do you think?
