How to Setup The XP Deus II to Find Deep Silver.

Deus II Deep Silver Coins

Since the XP Deus II was released by XP Metal Detectors, it has proven to be one of the most sought after metal detectors in 2022. Packed with an abundance of features there isn’t much the Deus II can’t find and if you are a new or experienced metal detectorist, the Deus II offers something for everyone.

The Deus II comes packed with several very good stock search programs. But if you want to find the really deep silver coins you need to make some slight changes in order to get the most out of the machine.

This article will focus on configuring the Deus II to increase your odds of finding deep silver coins that may have been missed by other metal detectors.

The Deus II is a Deep Seeking Metal Detector

The Deus II is one of the deepest seeking metal detectors you can buy. Because of its ability to detect deep targets and its ability to unmask in heavy iron conditions, puts the Deus II in a class all its own. The Deus II can detect coins at depths often times past 12 inches but the results will vary based on several conditions such as:

  • Soil composition
  • High mineralization/hot ground
  • EMI/Atmospherics

If you are experiencing high mineralization (hot ground), your detecting depth will be significantly impacted. In addition, atmospherics caused by electric lines, electric fences, and other metal detectors will also impact detecting depth. Pay close attentions to these conditions as you are detecting. While there are some settings you can adjust to reduce the impacts of these conditions, detection depth will be impacted to some degree.

Which Deus II Base Program to Start With?

For the purposes of this article we are going to use “Deep HC” as our base program. However, if you are new to the Deus II, I don’t suggest starting out with this way. Instead, I highly suggest picking one of the default search programs such as “Park” and expand your knowledge from there. After you feel confident enough navigating through the menus and understanding the different audio options etc., only then are you ready to start changing things but making small changes at first is the advice I give to most users who are new to the Deus II. See my XP DEUS II Beginners Guide

Getting back to the purpose of this article we will be choosing the “Deep HC” as our base program. HC stands for High Conductor. It is also important to point out that Deep HC uses up the battery life quicker than the other search programs but you will still get 6-8 hours of detecting time using it.

Beware of Using “Deep HC” to Sniff Out DEEP Silver Coins

There are a few slight adjustments needed to be made to the Deep HC search program that should help detect those deep silver coins that have been missed by other machines. However, there are a few things to be aware of once you make these changes and they are the following:

  • You will probably dig some nails.
  • You will probably did some trash.
  • Not every good target will be a silver coin.

Please make sure you know what you are up against before using this program. At first, I recommend digging every target you think is a good or bad target but pay close attention to the target ID numbers. Are they jumping around a lot? If the numbers jump around (more than 2 numbers), then its probably not something you will want to dig. Especially if you see lower numbers mixed in with high numbers. If you hear iron tailing the end of a signal only to find a nail in the hole that will probably happen a lot. But you will have to dig some bad targets to understand what you shouldn’t be digging.

I recommend digging every target that stops you in your tracks. If you find yourself going over the target you might as well just dig it up and learn what you shouldn’t be listening for.

Now, lets get into the settings and make some changes.

How-to Setup “Deep HC” to Increase Your Odds of Finding Silver.

There are only a few changes that need to made to default settings of the Deep HC program to make it better. Here are my recommendations to increase your odds of finding deep silver:

  • DISCRI = 0 up to 6.4. The less filtering done on the Deus II the better. But while less filtering can enhance performance significantly, it also opens the door for unwanted targets. Try and stick with 0 but adjust as needed. I try not to go any higher than 6.4. IF you feel you need to go higher than consider using NOTCH (mentioned below)
  • DISCRI (Expert) = 2 Tones selected.
    • 1st Tone = 101 Hz (or your preference)
    • 2nd Tone = 950 Hz (or your preference)
    • B.CAPS = Off
    • Notch = Off (If you find yourself digging numerous unwanted targets, add in a notch from 0-58 to remove many of the undesirable targets)
    • SILENCER = Off
  • SENSITIVITY = 93 (or higher)
  • IRON VOLUME = 1 (using headphones) 3 (using external speaker)
  • REACTIVITY = 0 up to 1.5 (no higher). Start with 0.
  • AUDIO RESPONSE = 5 (default is 4). 5 Will enhance the audio and make deep targets louder but will reduce your ability to determine if a target is deep or shallow (sonically). If you prefer to hear faint deep targets as faint audio, then leave the response at 4.

Below are a few screen shots of what you should be seeing from the changes you are making

Watch The Video To Help Navigate Through The Settings

A word of caution if you choose to watch the video below. Since this video was made I’ve have gone back and made a few slight adjustments that are different than what you see in the video. For instance, in the video I recommend using DISCRI from 0 all the way to 40. I now recommend using a notch to accomplish the same effect vs using DISCRI. Notch does not impact the overall performance of the DEUS II like DISCRI will. Notch only blocks the signal from reaching your ears via the speaker or headphones and should be used instead.

If you watch the video just take note of what is in the video. Use the settings I recommend in this article but watch how I navigate around the menus in the video to help you navigate to your settings.

I Hope You Find This Helpful

My goal from publishing these articles is to help you learn the XP Deus II Metal Detector. It really is a powerful metal detector that often times gets over looking because it appears to be complicated. Advanced? Yes. Complicated? No. Once you begin to learn how to navigate the menus and understand what is beings offered to you, I think you will begin to enjoy this lightweight but powerful metal detector.

Mental Metal

Here is a little about me. I started this hobby back in the early 90's. My first detector was a Whites 5900 DI. I found enough clad the first summer (around $400) to pay it off. Then I stopped detecting... Fortunately, I didn't give it up for good. Here I am 20+ years later and I've rediscovered the joy of metal detecting.
