How to Get Metal Detecting Permissions – 5 Easy Tips

Metal Detecting Permissions

Getting a Metal Detecting Permission is Not Easy

I’ve been metal detecting since the early 1990’s but one of the hardest things about metal detecting is getting good permissions. The worst part about getting a permission is that it usually requires some sort of human interaction with another human being. As funny as that sounds most of us do not like walking up to a stranger’s door step and knocking on the door.

But think about it from the homeowner’s perspective. They see some stranger walking up to their door and the first thing that probably pops in their mind is that you are some kind of solicitor selling something. Many times, the homeowner won’t even open the door if they feel that way. Many homeowners won’t open the door for safety reasons. Lets face it, the world we live in has seen better days. Unfortunately, getting new metal detecting permissions has become extremely difficult.

Mental Metal

Here is a little about me. I started this hobby back in the early 90's. My first detector was a Whites 5900 DI. I found enough clad the first summer (around $400) to pay it off. Then I stopped detecting... Fortunately, I didn't give it up for good. Here I am 20+ years later and I've rediscovered the joy of metal detecting.
