ATTENTION: Before you read any further I want you to know that I recently acquired the Fisher Impulse AQ and was able to provide a more accurate review of this new pulse induction machine. I started reading opinion based threads about what appears to be a new pulse induction machine made by Fisher called the Impulse AQ. Dating back to March of 2019, I read threads of this machine supposedly coming out in 2019 but I'm pretty sure that never happened. In fact, I went over to Fisher's website and found no evidence to suggest that the Impulse AQ was ever released. However, it does appear that the AQ is heading for a 2020 release. In this article, I'm going to summarize what I've read/seen and link you to some of those sources so you can read the information for yourself. Is The Impulse Going to be a Land or Water Machine? Based on what I've read, the Impulse AQ which stands for "Aqua", so it will probably be a water/beach detector. There is some speculation that their might be a land/relic/coin version of the Impulse also coming out at some point. But every indication points the Impulse AQ to be a water/beach machine. We'll have to wait and see what they decide to do. What Does The Fisher Impulse AQ Look Like? For copyright reasons I don't want to post any photos here. Plus, I can't confirm if the photos I saw are the real photos of the Impulse or just the prototype. I believe that it will probably look similar to the photos listed here. But the photo you see at the beginning of this article is a screen grab I took off of a video from the Hobby Detecting YouTube channel. For starters, the Impulse is supposed to be a lot lighter than your typical pulse induction metal detector. My experience has mostly been with the White's TDI and the Minlelab GPX 4500 and 5000 and those machines are not light. Especially the GPX 4500. Some sources are reporting that this machine is supposedly coming in at just under 4 pounds or right around 1.8 kg. How Much Will The Fisher Impulse AQ Cost? The answer to that question will be difficult to predict but I'm reading that some are estimating the cost to be somewhere between $2000-$2750. I included some links below to some of the other "popular" pulse induction machines for comparison. Based on my chart below, I will not be surprised if the Impulse hits the market at around the $2000 range. Supposedly discrimination is something that will be very different than what you get in most pulse induction machines (which is the lack there of). If you own a pulse machine, then you know what I mean. Pulse machines are not known for their ability to discriminate unwanted targets. However, if the rumors are true, Fisher may have figured out a way to offer better discrimination with the Impulse AQ. Until the machine comes out, we won't know for sure but there has been a lot of talk about it. Will The Impulse Have a VDI? From what I've been able to dig up on the Impulse AQ, the answer will likely be no. Based on earlier prototype photos (found here), I've seen 7 turn knobs labeled as Volume, Threshold, Sensitivity, Sat Speed, Iron Mask, Mode, and Pulse Delay/Noise Cancel. No VDI. What is The Expected Battery Life of The Impulse AQ? I've seen anywhere from 5 - 6 hours of operation time to somewhere around 10 hours of expected battery life. There could be an extra battery option which would give you a longer operating time. We won't know for sure until the real specs come out. Are There Any Technical Specs Out Now on Fisher The Impulse AQ? There are some specs listed based on the first Impulse AQ Prototype and they can be found here. In Short The Impulse AQ appears to be coming with some interesting features and appears to be heading for a 2020 release. Will it be that pulse induction machine everyone has been hoping for? One that has good discrimination? No one really knows but if you believe what you read, you just might find yourself looking forward to seeing this machine hit the market. Curiosity has set in for me. I can't wait to see whats in store for the Fisher Impulse AQ.
