August Digger of The Month

Facebook members from Meal Detecting Maryland and fans of the Mental Metal YouTube Channel would like to congratulate the August 2019 Digger of The Month.

Keith Cox

August Digger of The Month
M1841 Mississippi Musket

During the month of August Keith pulled up this extremely rare M1841 Mississippi Musket while water hunting. But this wasn’t his first M1841 musket. Keith and his friend Ron Vettel have been pulling up muskets from this location for the past 2 years. This happened to be the the 4th musket they found at this location. 2 of these muskets have been donated to a museum near South Mountain, Maryland. Congratulations Keith and to his friend Ron.

You can also find this 6 pound solid shot cannon ball (below) from the War of 1812 is on display at the Dundalk Museum in Maryland. Keith found the solid shot 10 years after his brother found one at the same location in Dundalk, Maryland. Keith was using his very first metal detector at that time that he purchased from Radio Shack.

Mental Metal

Here is a little about me. I started this hobby back in the early 90's. My first detector was a Whites 5900 DI. I found enough clad the first summer (around $400) to pay it off. Then I stopped detecting... Fortunately, I didn't give it up for good. Here I am 20+ years later and I've rediscovered the joy of metal detecting.
